Our fun, energetic and ambitious Senior Drama Group runs on Monday nights 7.30pm to 9pm, currently online via Zoom. S1-S6.

What term times do you run? 

We stick by West Lothian school holidays and take our term breaks in accordance with them. Our 2021 term times are:

Term 3 - Monday 11th January to Monday 29th March

Term 4 - Monday 19th April to Monday 28th June

Term 1 -Monday 23rd August to Monday 4th October

Term 2 - Monday 18th October to Monday 20th December

Where is your group based?

We are based in the Regal Theatre, Bathgate. However, we are currently operating online via Zoom.

How much does joining the group cost?

We do payments per term - each term is totalled by the amount of hours. The workshops cost £6 per session, however, sibling discounts are available.

What does your group focus on? 

We devise shows, we work with scripts and also play drama games while creating a social space.

Our Programme

Acting & Performance

Creating high quality shows for audiences is one of the main aims for our Senior Group. We look to give participants experience of performing in front of different audiences. We look at new writing, devising and pre-existing texts.

A Social Space

Through the years, our Senior Group has created long-lasting friendships and friendship groups. By collaborating and creating together, theatre is a perfect place to make new friends.

Positive Mental Health & 

Taking part in drama activities helps promote positive mental health. Theatre can help raise confidence, life skills and communication.

Matthew Swan

Creative Director

Matthew is the Creative Director of At the Root Theatre. He is a theatre workshop facilitator, writer and creative producer working across West Lothian. He graduated from Queen Margaret University in 2018 with a BA (Hons) degree in Drama and Performance. He is currently leading the Kids Drama Group, Senior Drama Group and Creative Writing Adults Series.

Lisa McDonald

Workshop Leader

Lisa is a Workshop Leader at At the Root Theatre. She is a theatre workshop facilitator, actor and director based in North Lanarkshire. She graduated from Queen Margaret University in 2018 with a BA (Hons) degree in Drama and Performance. She is currently leading the Senior Drama Group and Adult Acting Group.
