Matthew Swan | Creative Director
Matthew is the Creative Director and Co-Founder of At the Root Theatre. He is a creative producer and theatre facilitator based in West Lothian. Matthew graduated from Queen Margaret University in 2018 with a First Class Honours in Drama and Performance. At university, Matthew focused on community theatre, theatre in education and directing.
Since graduating, Matthew has been leading At the Root as Creative Director. He is also the drama tutor at Star Harmonies. Matthew has worked with West Lothian Libraries, Edinburgh Youth Theatre and the Performance Academy.
Becca Lamont | Workshop Leader
Becca is a workshop leader with At the Root Theatre. She has been working with At the Root since 2016 and has helped develop new groups such as our Early Years Programme and the Uphall Drama Clubs. She is a creative producer and theatre facilitator working across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Becca graduated from Queen Margaret University with an honours degree in Drama and Performance.
Since graduating, Becca has worked with companies like At the Root Theatre and MBArts. She has also been involved in education outreach projects in West Lothian.
Lisa McDonald | Workshop Leader
Lisa is a workshop leader with At the Root Theatre. She has been working with At the Root since 2020 and has helped develop new groups such as our Adult Acting and Early Years Programme. She is a director and theatre facilitator working across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Lisa graduated from Queen Margaret University with an honours degree in Drama and Performance.
Lisa is the artistic director of two theatre companies - Central Belters and Simply Surreal. She has lots of experience in working with creatives based in Scotland and has taken many shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Lois Mackenzie | Workshop Assistant
Lois is one of our friendly workshop assistants. Lois has been working with At the Root Theatre since January 2022 as our workshop assistant. She is a music student (soon to be graduate) and has lots of experience in theatre making and drama as she used to be a participant with At the Root!
Kyle McRoberts | Workshop Assistant
Kyle is a workshop assistant with At the Root Theatre. Kyle helped to develop the company way back in 2015 and has been with us ever since as a workshop assistant. He has helped Becca develop and deliver our Uphall drama group.
Cara Watson | Writer in Residence
Cara Watson is a performer and writer based in Fife and working across Edinburgh and Fife. She is working with At the Root Theatre on 'After the Rain' - a new short film project based around the themes of loneliness and coming out of the pandemic.
Cara has also worked with At the Root on another project, Let's Talk. Let's Talk was a series of seven short monologues based on the theme of mental health. Cara wrote 'Becoming Dust' which was performed by Shannon Davidson.
Cara is one of the founders of 'Untie My Tongue.'
Martine Mia Browne | Workshop Leader
Martine trained as an actress and performer studying at college and university across Scotland, completing her HNC and HND in performing arts. Martine became self-employed through this time appearing in TV adverts, independent films, voice-overs and touring as a singer. Martine also attended Queen Margaret University to complete year 2 of the BA HONS degree in Film and Theatre.
2018 Martine was the founder and creative director of Mia’s Aim CIC, a nonprofit organisation, ranging from FREE classes,bespoke classes, birthday parties and workshops. Martine currently works as a director of M&Bees Ltd and is delighted to be part of the team at the At The Root Theatre as a Drama Workshop Leader.
