Film Club
The Project

The Wednesday Film Club was a project ran by At the Root Theatre in 2018 in Bathgate, West Lothian. We worked with twelve to sixteen year olds in the project and it was very kindly supported by Acredale House in Bathgate with an in-kind venue space.

We used the project to create a greater accessibility to filming equipment and knowledge. We hoped to inspire participants to go and make their own films and try new things.

The project seen us look at storyboarding, costume design, lighting and sound, script work, types of shot and more. The first part of the project explored all of the behind the scenes elements. There's lots of types of jobs and career paths within the creative industry and we feel it's important to give a flavour of what's out there. After looking at the behind the scenes areas we soon moved onto making our own film, Establish, in the second half of the project.

"The chance to learn and develop new skills in the film club has been fantastic for her confidence. She's made lots of new friends too."
